How to choose an event photographer

Event photography is a wide subject and very interesting area of photography. It is a special kind of photojournalism. Whether it is a school function, fashion show, rock show, sports event or any other kind of occasion, event photography preserves all the memories and allows you to enjoy the moment. The recent growth in the popularity of event photography is mostly due to the introduction of digital cameras since they allow professionals to display, organize, edit and print off pictures instantly. In previous years customers would usually have to wait over a week for their wedding pictures to be developed and delivered to them. How to choose an event photographer:

As soon as you set a date for your event, begin researching event photography in your area. Ask for recommendations from friends and family members Many event photographers have their own web sites where potential clients can view samples of their past work. Study their work properly; do the subjects look happy, relaxed, and natural, or do the poses seem awkward and artificial?Has the photographer used extensive retouching techniques, and are the results looking natural and pleasing? Pay close attention to facial expressions.

Schedule an interview as early as possible. Event photographers are often among the first professionals hired for a special day, and you may need to speak with several individuals before you find someone who will suit your needs. 1. Get the identity of the person or persons who will cover the event Most companies have more than one event photographer. If you are dealing with a company whose coverage is countrywide, they will definitely provide one local photographer from their pool of professionals. Make sure that those event photographers who are going to cover the event have enough knowledge and experience. 2. Confirm that the photographer is carrying backup equipment Professional and event photographers always bring things in pairs. In critical and sensitive events like weddings where there are no second chances, backup equipment are very important. Professionals are always prepared for the unexpected and they hate to be caught unprepared under any conditions. Many things can happen while covering a wedding. The equipment may suddenly break out with no apparent reason. A good photographer will always have backup equipment and a backup plan . 3. Will the photographer go solo? You should be clear with your expectations and requirements as far as the photography is concerned. The studio should be able to determine if they need more than one event photographer to cover the entire occasion. 4. What is the backup plan for various cases? You should be able to discuss a backup plan in case of any problem during the event. A good photographer must have everything well covered including his backup plans. Having an event photographer on site can improve an event; acting as an attraction and encouraging people to look at all the pictures that have been taken. The pictures will be of a higher quality than if they were captured by an average camera.
